On the heels of a strong year, Tenet Healthcare subsidiary USPI, plans to lean into outpatient spine.
USPI saw strong gains in 2025 revenue with $5.2 billion, a 14.1% jump year over year. Looking ahead, Tenet Healthcare CEO Saum Sutaria, MD, said the company is eyeing gradual tailwinds as the CMS inpatient-only list phases out, in a Feb. 11 earnings call.
“In this first year, we see opportunities in areas such as high acuity spine and urology procedures,” Dr. Sutaria said. “We have detailed tactical plans to capitalize on the opportunity and are actively operationalizing our capabilities to serve patients in 2026. USPI continues to be a high growth, capital efficient business that delivers high returns on capital expenditures.”
Outpatient spine is an area that surgeons expect to see increased growth thanks to minimally invasive techniques and ERAS protocols. In ASCs that means more complex cases can be moved to the outpatient setting, spine surgeons predict.
There’s also opportunities ahead to push other orthopedic innovations, Dr. Sutaria said.
“A lot of the robotics capabilities that we have brought into the ASC is continues to allow us to find new avenues of expansion,” he said. “Obviously the large ongoing opportunity that that we continue to see [is] double digit growth in our joint program across the network. All those areas are attractive looking forward.”
