Here are four points:
1. Travelers’ Early Severity Predictor works to identify the likelihood of an injured employee developing chronic pain. The goal is to avoid pain in the recovery process, thus minimizing the need for opioids.
2. Travelers’ model has thus far been applied in more than 20,000 cases. Of these cases, 9,000 or more injured employees were at risk of developing chronic pain.
3. ESP helps lower employer medical expenses, which cost almost $40,000 per injury. In the 20,000 cases listed above, ESP cut costs by 50 percent.
4. The model is pending a patent.
