Here are six things to know:
1. Researchers compared the seven- and 10-year outcomes of cervical arthroplasty and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion.
2. Data was collected from 47 patients who had either been treated by ACDF or arthroplasty.
3. ACDF commonly treats radiculopathy which is often caused by degeneration of cervical discs. This form of treatment causes long-term concern for adjacent segment change.
4. Cervical disc arthroplasty minimizes the risks and challenges while providing positive neurological outcomes.
5. Both treatments exhibited positive results at the 10-year interval, although arthroplasty edged ACDF out as the more effective treatment in the long run.
6. Of the patients who needed reoperation, 32 percent had been treated via ACDF and 9 percent had been treated with arthroplasty.
