The HIE is a platform that allows physicians access to patients’ healthcare records in real time. It gives physicians access to immunization records, X-rays, test results, medications and clinical reports. The process to join the HIE took the practice about two weeks, but implementation will take a little longer.
“Ultimately, the goal of any health information exchange is for each state exchange to connect to a national exchange so that the patient’s health record can be accessed by healthcare providers anywhere in the country,” said Penny Forbes, practice administrator at Sierra Regional Spine Institute.
