The surgeries were performed at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, also in Pinehurst. Pinehurst is the first in the state to perform complete total joint replacement surgeries for the spine.
The Motus device replaces the function of the disc and facet joints through a posterior approach. It addresses leg pain, back pain and spine instability. The procedure can treat degenerative disease through reconstruction, similar to other joint replacement procedures.
Surgeons Alexander Lemons, MD, and Daniel Williams, MD, performed the first case using the new device, according to a March 6 press release.
