In the last decade, minimally invasive technologies have made it possible to perform many spine surgeries previously done in the hospital with overnight stays in the outpatient setting.

Egan Bernal, winner of the 2019 Tour de France, will undergo a second spine surgery Feb. 2, nine days after he was rushed to hospital following a high-speed collision with a parked bus while training, according to Cycling News.

By 2030, the shortage of physicians in the U.S. is expected to reach 121,300, with neurosurgery among the specialties anticipating a significant deficit, according to an annual report published Jan. 26 by advisory group Physicians Thrive.
