Neurosurgeon Dr. Peter Jannetta of Allegheny General Hospital dies

Neurosurgeon Peter Jannetta, MD, died April 11 at 84 years old, according to Trib Live. He served at Pittsburgh-based Allegheny General Hospital and provided care at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine for 30 years.

Dr. Jannetta developed a surgical procedure for trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic facial pain disorder, in the 1960s. He authored more than 400 articles, abstracts and book chapters on neurosurgery throughout his career.

 

Dr. Jannetta earned his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and completed his residency at University of California at Los Angeles.
