International Scoliosis Awareness day on June 20 — 5 notes

As part of the International Scoliosis Awareness day, healthcare officials are offering free scoliosis screening and an awareness concert at People’s Park in Davao City in the Philippines.

1. Scoliosis Association of the Philippines and the Davao City Government organized the event in cooperation with Peak Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Davao Doctors College Physical Therapy Development and San Pedro College Physical Therapy Development.

 

2. The Scoliosis Association UK launched international scoliosis awareness day in an effort to promote education and bring together those who are affected by scoliosis.

 

3. Approximately 3 million Filipinos suffer from scoliosis.

 

4. Asia has the highest recorded cases with 15 million cases of scoliosis due to a lack of awareness.

 

5. Ed Oliveros, MD, of Physical Therapy from Peak Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, stated scoliosis needs to be treated and detected early to prevent complications like difficult breathing, leg discrepancies, muscular imbalances, difficulty moving anad crushed organs.
