Dr. Venu M. Nemani to join Virginia Mason Medical Center

Venu M. Nemani, MD, PhD, of Raleigh (N.C.) Orthopaedic Clinic is joining Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.

Dr. Nemani is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, with expertise in the treatment of problems involving the cervical spine, spinal deformities such as scoliosis, as well as revision spine surgery.

Originally from Indiana, Dr. Nemani simultaneously completed his medical degree and a doctorate in neuroscience at the University of California San Francisco, with his PhD dissertation focusing on a new mechanism by which nerve signaling is modulated with implications for neurodegenerative diseases.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, where he received the Thomas P. Sculco award for excelling in his residency.

Dr. Nemani’s research has been published in various journals in spine surgery and neuroscience including Spine, The Spine Journal, Neurosurgery, Neuron and the Journal of Neuroscience.

Dr. Nemani is a candidate member of the Scoliosis Research Society and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an active member of the Cervical Spine Research Society.
