Dr. Shelly Timmons becomes head of neurosurgery at IU Health

Indianapolis-based IU Health appointed Shelly Timmons, MD, PhD, to lead the department of neurosurgery, reports Inside Indiana Business.

Three things to know:

1. IU Health Physicians and the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis selected Dr. Timmons, who will be the first woman to lead the department.

2. Dr. Timmons previously served as vice chair for administration in the department of neurosurgery at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Dauphin County, Pa.

3. She earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria and completed her residency in neurological surgery at the University at the University of Tennessee in Memphis.
