Roger Härtl, MD, performed the first fully mixed reality transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion at New York City-based Weill Cornell Medicine, neurosurgeon Philip Stieg, MD, PhD, said in a March 5 LinkedIn post.
Dr. Härtl used mixed reality guidance for pedicle screw placement and augmented reality overlays through a microscope during the decompression.
The combined technologies put anatomy and surgical planning data into the surgeon’s field of vision to boost efficiency.
