Here’s what you should know:
1. Mr. Kershaw was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers on July 23. He lasted two innings before leaving the game with back discomfort. The team is expected to make an announcement regarding Mr. Kershaw’s condition July 24.
Ken Rosenthal reported that the Dodgers believe Mr. Kershaw could miss between four to six weeks, although the team is waiting for an official diagnosis from Dr. Watkins.
2. Mr. Kershaw had a herniated disc in his back last year. Dr. Watkins diagnosed and treated the injury last year as well. Mr. Kershaw was out for 10 weeks last season.
3. The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to put Mr. Kershaw on the disabled list sometime on July 24.
4. Dr. Watkins, of California-based Watkins Spine, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon. He has extensive experience in spine surgery and in treating athletes.
5. Dr. Watkins has authored several textbooks and articles on spine surgery.
