Here are five highlights:
1. Dr. Chahine will use the $1.8 million grant to study the role inflammation plays in spinal degenerative disc diseases.
2. Her study, “Mechanobiology of Inflammation in Intervertebral Disc,” will analyze molecule and receptor interactions to identify what triggers spinal degenerative intervertebral discs.
3. Specifically, Dr. Chahine will study the high mobility group box 1 molecule, as this protein could serve as a trigger.
4. Dr. Chahine hopes her research will lead to new treatments for delaying or reversing spinal disc regeneration.
5. She earned her doctor of philosophy degree in biomechanics/bioengineering from Columbia University in New York City.
