“What started as an effort to build something to make my procedures faster and easier with less radiation has developed into a paradigm shift in surgical navigation that will soon be available to every surgeon,” John Dorman, MD, Circinus’ founder and chairman, said in a Nov. 20 news release.
The system uses an iOS device to support the placement of posterior fixation with sub-1 millimeter accuracy. Its gyroscope-on-chip technology is designed to reduce cost and improve efficiency.
In July, Dr. Dorman closed his practice, Odesa-based West Texas Neurosurgery, and joined Boulder (Colo.) Neurosurgical & Spine Associates.
He focuses on complex spine surgeries and the development of surgical instruments, for which he holds several patents.
