What you should know:
1. Dr. Buchowski directs Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis’ spine division and spine fellowship.
2. The school established the professorship in recognition of Larry Lenke, MD, and Elizabeth Lenke. Dr. Lenke completed his internship, residency and fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Lenke also served as the director of the spine division until 2015, when Dr. Buchowski succeeded him.
3. Dr. Buchowski earned his medical degree from and completed his residency at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
4. Dr. Buchowski is an expert in spinal oncology, complex reconstructive spine surgery and spinal deformity. He’s a widely accomplished researcher and has received several honors, including one from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
On the appointment, Dr. Buchowski said: “I am honored to receive this recognition and to serve in a professorship that bears the name of one of my mentors. This endowment not only will support my research and clinical practice, it also will help support the work we do in the spine fellowship program.”
