2. In their paper, VCH found presurgical prep with photodynamic therapy decreased surgical site infections by 78 percent.
3. Specifically, the group found a presurgical bundle with photodisinfection-based nasal decolonization reduced spine surgical site infections from 7.2 percent to 1.6 percent over an eight-year period.
4. By reducing these infections, VCH produced an annual cost savings of $4.24 million.
