Here are five quick notes about the system:
1. The hospital purchased a Mazor Renaissance Guidance System for use during spinal procedures. The technology is designed to improve the precision for spinal procedures.
2. Ed Dohring, MD, Issada Thongtrangan, MD, and Mark Wang, MD, are trained to perform the procedures. Seven patients have undergone surgery with the robotic technology so far.
3. The surgeons can use the robotic system instead of X-rays to decide where to place corrective screws during spine surgery. The less invasive procedure is designed for less scarring, less time in the hospital and a faster recovery.
4. Abrazo Arrowhead Campus has the first robotic system for spine surgery in Arizona.
5. The robotic system costs more than $1 million and has been used in more than 10,000 surgeries in the United States, Europe and Asia.
