Becker’s reported on two developments in spine trials in August.

1. Kinglsey Chin, MD, founder and president of SpineFrontier, was sentenced to supervised release and ordered to pay a fine after pleading guilty to one count of making false statements to CMS. Dr. Chin reached a plea deal in May, according to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. His guilty plea is related to charges that he told employees to report surgeon fees as consulting fees even though the physician didn’t do any consulting work.

2. Life Spine owes Globus Medical $9.5 million for infringing a patent related to parts used in expandable spinal fusion devices. The jury ruling stems from a 2021 lawsuit that Globus Medical filed in Delaware District Court. Globus Medical alleged that Life Spine’s ProLift products infringed its Caliber line of expandable intervertebral implants.
