Medtronic acquires Cardiocom disease management company for $200M.
Medtronic has purchased disease management and patient monitoring firm Cardiocom for $200M. With the acquisition, Minneapolis-based medical device manufacturer will move into the business of working with hospitals to reduce chronic disease patient care costs.

Dr. Charles Branch receives AANS/CNS award.
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., announced Charles Branch, MD, was given the Meritorious Service Award at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves Annual Meeting held recently in Phoenix.

LDR cervical disc replacement gains FDA approval.
Austin, Texas-based LDR received FDA approval for the commercial sale and distribution of the Mobi-C Cervical Disc for one-level indications.

Renaissance Spine sales boost Mazor Robotics’ Q2 gross profits 130%.
Mazor Robotics reported its gross profits more than doubled in the second quarter, as the company brought in $5 million this year compared to $2.2 million during the same period in 2012. The increased profits are due to an increase in Renaissance robotic spine system globally. Currently, 54 systems are installed, and the company received its first follow-up order from a U.S. hospital corporation during the second quarter.

Precision Spine locked into long-term deal with Japanese device distributor.
Parsippany, N.J.-based Precision Spine entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Japanese operating equipment manufacturer Mizuho Ikakogyo. The long-term deal will help Precision Spine build a global network for its spinal implant technology.

Robert Watkins, MD, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon, will perform a cervical fusion on the Boston Red Sox outfielder Ryan Kalish. Dr. Watkins is the co-director of Marina Spine Center in Marina del Rey, Calif.

SpineMark, California Healthcom partner on medical tourism.
SpineMark Corporation, a developer of spine centers of excellence and spine research organizations, and California Healthcom Group, a developer of cloud-based digital healthcare solutions, announced that they have entered into a strategic partnership that aims at linking back pain patients in Asia with SpineMark centers of excellence and physicians.
