Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Tim Burd of Nebraska Spine and Pain Center

Spine Leaders

Tim Burd, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Nebraska Spine and Pain Center in Omaha.

Dr. Burd received his medical degree and did an internship at Omaha-based Creighton University School of Medicine, according to the center's website. He completed residencies at Columbia-based University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics and St. Louis-based Shriners Hospitals for Children.

He has fellowship training from University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics and Plano-based Texas Back Institute.

Dr. Burd said in a video feature that he mostly focuses on adult degenerative spine care and pediatric injuries, and that he prefers a conservative approach to treating patients.

"I still believe there are too many spine surgeries done around the country and probably the world," he said in the video. "It's part of our charge to make sure that we're doing appropriate surgery and not just really operating on everyone that comes in with a back problem. Most patients, again, don't need spine surgery, so it's identifying the ones who will clearly have a good to excellent result versus those who will get better on their own with conservative non-operative management."
