Spine Leaders

Hamid Abbasi, MD, PhD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and CMO of Inspired Spine in Alexandria, Minn.

Dr. Abbasi specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery and is a leader in the oblique lateral lumbar interbody fusion technique. He received his medical degree and PhD in computer science from the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

In 2017, Dr. Abbasi performed the 5000th OLLIF procedure, which is intended to treat pain from degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis and spinal stenosis. Dr. Abbasi was the principal investigator on a study comparing OLLIF with transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion, which found performing OLLIF instead of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion could save the healthcare industry around $2.7 billion per year. He has presented his research around the world.
