Zimmer Releases Total Ankle Replacement Device

Warsaw, Ind.-based Zimmer released its Trabecular Metal Total Ankle replacement and instrument system at the 2013 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting this week in Chicago.

The implant incorporated advancements from knee and hip replacements to ankle arthroplasty, including bearing materials and anatomically matched shapes and sizes, according to the release. The device is implanted through a lateral approach and the rigid external fixation is designed to ensure proper alignment.
