Zimmer Biomet collaborates on VR scoliosis surgery training

A new virtual reality training software allows surgeons to practice minimally invasive scoliosis surgery in teens.

The module, from PrecisionOS lets surgeons practice the vertebral body tethering scoliosis treatment, according to an Aug. 4 news release. It’s a minimally invasive alternative to a posterior spinal fusion and significantly reduces the challenges of an open surgery.

Zimmer Biomet’s spinoff spine and dental business, NewCo, is using the procedures to augment training for surgeons and sales reps.
