The payments include royalties and licensure, consulting fees, travel and lodging, debt forgiveness, food and beverage and education, among other things.
All together, the top five orthopedic focused device companies paid $456.5 million to physicians last year. Here is the breakdown by company.

2. Arthrex: $114.1 million
3. Stryker: $110.8 million
4. DePuy Synthes: $58.6 million
5. Smith+Nephew: $39 million
