University of Tennessee engineers to create customized wearables for motor skill-impaired patients — 6 points

Knoxville-based University of Tennessee engineers are creating wearable sensors for patients with motor impairments, according to the University of Tennessee Daily Beacon.

Here are six points:

 

1. The customizable wearable sensors will be able to sense discrepancies in a patient’s rehabilitation.

 

2. The engineers will design the wearable to connect with smartphones, offering visual and audio feedback.

 

3. The idea is that the wearable can assess how a patient is doing at home, and emphasize key times when he or she lost motor control.

 

4. The patient’s provider will then assess the data gathered by the wearable, and help patients improve in specific areas.

 

5. The UT Brain and Spine Institute is helping with this project.

 

6. The engineers hope to have sufficient data by February 2017.
