The first implantation with the system was successfully completed in May at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. It is the first shoulder joint replacement system designed for use during minimally invasive procedures and reversed arthroplasty without the complications usually associated with surgical removal of an implant.
During the reverse arthroplasty procedure, the ball of the implant system is moved from the humerus to the glenoid and the socket is moved from the glenoid to the humerus. The procedure can be performed at the time of the initial joint replacement or in conjunction with revision joint replacement surgery.
