The layoffs are part of ongoing plans to close the Lakeland facility by the end of 2023, according to the report. In December, 22 employees were laid off, and 495 total workers are expected to be let go.

Plans for the closing and layoffs were first reported in November.

A spokesperson for Stryker said plans to close the Lakeland facility came after a “careful and detailed analysis.”

“This is a multiyear initiative started in 2021,” the company said in an email to Becker’s. “People are one of our most important values and we will support impacted employees throughout the process.”
