The clinical trial will evaluate the PerQdisc device for patients suffering from degenerative disc disease, according to a March 4 news release. The system is an alternative to spinal fusion and disc replacement.

Spinal Stabilization Technologies said it raised $17 million from new and existing investors to support the trial and advance other clinical initiatives.

Additionally, the company added Frank Phillips, MD, to its Board of Directors. Dr. Phillips is a renowned spine surgeon with several patents and more than 200 publications. He has also pioneered minimally invasive procedures and launched several spine companies.
