Orthopedic fixation technology company Ossio has launched the world’s first non-permanent compression staple for orthopedic fixation, the Ossiofiber Compression Staples.

The staples are Ossio’s fifth product family and will provide solutions for midfoot and hindfoot procedures.

The staples are made from Ossio’s proprietary bone regeneration technology that leaves no permanent hardware behind.

Ossio’s staples received FDA 510(k) clearance in January 2022 for fixation in hand or foot fractures.

OrthoCarolina surgeon Samuel Ford, MD, and Rothman Orthopedic Institute surgeon Selene Parekh, MD, were among the first to use the staples commercially.

“I love the fact that there is no metal blocking the view of the fusion site, and the compression and stability achieved just from the one staple was better than what I typically see for metal staples. By using a non-permanent implant, we restore patient mobility and stability through a natural healing process and patients avoid long-term implant prominence,” Dr. Parekh said in a Feb. 7 press release.
