OrthoSensor CEO Discusses New Implant Movement Monitoring Device

OrthoSensor has developed a system that can monitor movement and applied forces from within an implant and relay the data wirelessly to the surgeon, said Jay Pierce, the company’s CEO, in an interview with The Atlantic this month.

OrthoSensor classifies its system as a form of ”Intelligent Orthopedics,” which involves harnessing sensor technology to single use devices that present data on a standard laptop, tablet, or phone.

”The response from surgeons has been extremely enthusiastic,” said Mr. Pierce. ”They are excited to have, for the first time, quantitative data to verify their feel-based technique. They like how intuitive it is and that it requires no change in their surgical workflow and does all this at a cost that is quite affordable.”
