The list includes new inventions expected to have a lasting impact on the field. One of the projects comes from Ohio State University where a paralyzed man was able to regain use of his arm with an implanted microchip — Neurobridge. The technology stimulates muscles according to brain patters and could have big implications for people with disabilities in the future.
Another technology on the list was developed at Wroclaw Medical University where medical researchers cultured nerve cells from a patient’s nose and surgically inserted them into the spinal cord to bring together damaged sections. The procedure allowed the patient to walk again.
