“With LessRay’s ability to dramatically reduce radiation exposure, as well as its enhanced imaging capability, we are now executing on our imaging and navigation strategy to improve spine surgery productivity and ultimately predictability,” said NuVasive CEO Gregory T. Lucier.
Here are five things to know about the technology:
1. LessRay’s proprietary image enhancement technology can improve low-dose, low radiation fluoroscopy images so surgeons have similar diagnostic capabilities as conventional full-dose fluoroscopy. As a result, surgeons are exposed to less radiation in the OR.
2. The software system’s features can reduce the number of fluoroscopic shots needed, further decreasing radiation exposure.
3. A recent study shows LessRay can reduce radiation exposure by 62 percent to 84 percent when compared to conventional fluoroscopy.
4. NuVasive acquired LessRay proprietary software algorithm and technology system in September 2016 and improved upon its design before the commercial launch. The company will sell LessRay units as a capital sale or lease purchase, focusing on dedicated spine surgery ORs.
5. The technology can improve efficiency in the ER with C-arm tracking, image stitching and improved visualization.
