Medical device company NanoHive Medical has earned exclusive sublicensing rights for DirectSync Surgical’s piezoelectric implantable sensor technology for use in spinal fusions.

DirectSync Surgical previously licensed the technology from the University of Kansas, according to a June 10 news release.

NanoHive is currently developing bone-stimulating and remote monitoring/data collection sensor technology that can be housed in its spinal interbody fusion device lattice, which is currently commercialized in the company’s Hive Soft Titanium portfolio of 3D printed spinal interbody fusion devices.

In 2023, the company began collaborative research with DirectSync. Now, it is in the process of working with the FDA on the transfer of the breakthrough device designation from DirectSync to NanoHive.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
