Medtronic Launches New Spinal System in Europe

Medtronic has launched the CD Horizon Fenestrated Screw Spinal System in Europe and has plans to introduce it in India, Singapore and Australia in the coming months, according to the company news release.

The system isn’t currently available in the United States.

The system is designed to address the needs of patients with poor or compromised bone quality after pathologies such as osteoporosis. The system includes a pedicle screw with additional holes in the tip so specially formulated bone cement can be injected into the vertebral body. The cement cures and provides enhanced fixation in the patient’s spine.

The system is intended to help provide immobilization and stabilization of spinal segments as an adjunct to fusion for thoracic, lumbar and/or sacral spine. There are potential risks to using the device, including dissembly, bending or breaking of components and tissue or nerve damage.
