Medtronic Launches Electronic Power Instruments for Spinal Surgery

Medtronic launched the POWEREASE System, a system of electronic instruments designed for use during instrumented spine surgery.

The system is compatible with the CD HORION SOLERA Spinal System and TSRH 3Dx Spinal System. The POWEREASE System is designed to reduce surgeon fatigue associated with repetitive hand motion during surgery, as well as enhance surgeon control.

Biomedical testing of the new system compared to manual instrument showed POWEREASE took 51 percent less time for tapping the pedicle and 55 percent less time for placing pedicle screws. There was also 38 percent less wobble with the system.
