Maurice R. Ferre, MD, president and CEO of MAKO attributes the company’s success to the addition of six new commercial sites, the international sales of the RIO system and an increase in MAKOplasty procedures performed worldwide.

The company received $5.7 million in revenue from selling seven RIO systems and $4.2 million in revenue from selling implants and disposables used in 780 domestic MAKOplasty procedures during the second quarter.

The company’s total gross profit for the second quarter of 2010 is reported as $6.6 million compared to $4.7 million during the second quarter of 2009. Operating expenses were $15.2 million during the second quarter as a result of an increase in sales and marketing activities as well as the commercialization of the RIO and RESTORIS systems.
