Here are five things to know:

1. CGS Administrators covers Medicare patients in Kentucky and Ohio. The MAC issued a positive local coverage determination for those patients on MIS SI joint fusion.

2. The positive coverage will be effective Feb. 1, 2016. The coverage is based on a combination of clinical publications demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of MIS SI joint fusion, including studies focused on SI-BONE’s iFuse Implant System.

3. The North American Spine Society and International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgeons both issued positive coverage recommendations for the procedure. The iFuse implant is FDA-approved for MIS SI joint fusion.

4. CGS Administrators is the sixth MAC to cover MIS SI joint fusion, bringing the total Medicare beneficiaries with access to the procedure to 2.8 million in that coverage area. All together there are 30 million Medicare lives covered for the procedure.

5. The iFuse Implant uses titanium implants coated with porous, titanium plasma spray designed to decrease implant motion and allow for biologic fixation to support fusion.
