CIBOR was founded in 2009 as a joint venture of WSU and Wichita, Kan.-based Via Christi Health. It focuses on researching and developing composite materials for use in bioscience and medical applications, including the manufacture of orthopedic implants. The center has successfully developed a number of devices and implants and has filed a number of patent submissions.

WSU President John Bardo and Via Christi Health President and CEO Jeff Korsmo both urged committee members to restore the funding.
