Here are five things to know:
1. The nationwide clinical study seeks to assess joint replacement patients’ experiences with Zimmer Biomet’s new mymobility app, which can be used in conjunction with an Apple Watch or iPhone to provide virtual and continuous care directly to the patient.
2. HOI is one of 18 U.S. organizations participating in the study, which officially launched Oct. 15. As many as 10,000 joint replacement patients will participate in the study.
3. The mymobility app is designed with several features that use both Apple Watch and the iPhone, including the ability for surgeons to send education and therapy reminders directly to the patient’s device.
4. The app also allows surgeons to monitor patient activity levels when the patient is both preparing for and recovering from surgery.
5. “The ability to accurately track the activity levels of our patients will give us quantitative, unbiased measurements to further enhance and improve upon our patients’ experiences throughout the continuum of care,” said Steven Barnett, MD, HOI orthopedic surgeon and principal investigator for the study.
