First Implantations of Exactech’s New Hip System Successful

Exactech, a Gainesville, Fla.-based orthopedic device company, has reported the first implantation of its new porous metal acetabular system and surgical technique for hip replacements, according to an Exactech news release.

The technology and technique are designed to improve the initial stability and long-term biological fixation of hip replacement implants. The company’s Novation Crown Cup system can be used for primary, complex primary and revision hip arthroplasty.

Andrew Glassman, MD, of Ohio State University in Columbus, and David Covall, MD, of Northside Hospital-Forsyth in Atlanta were the first two surgeons to perform cases with the technology. The company’s initial U.S. launch of the system is underway.
