The procedure was performed by Morgan Lorio, MD, of Bristol, Tenn. The GLIF is the only lateral approach that allows surgeons to perform 360-degree corrections without repositioning the patient. The ARC portal access system is designed to perform the fusions with less intra-operative blood loss and tissue disruption.
The system provides lateral access with direct visualization to the intervertebral disc space while also allowing the patient to remain in the prone position. The ARC system also eliminates the need to reposition the patient intra-operatively when used with the posterior pedicle fixation. This reduces the length of the surgery and could potentially reduce operating room costs.
