Question: What are your primary considerations when deciding on becoming an early adapter of a new device in spine?

Dr. Zeeshan Sardar: A lot of new spinal devices enter the market every year. There are multiple things I consider when deciding on becoming an early adapter of a new device:

1. Does the new device offer a treatment option for a problem that is currently unsolved?

2. Has the new device shown good and consistent improvement in patient outcomes in clinical trials? Is there a potential for bias in the reporting of these clinical trials?

3. Does the new device have a high failure or complication rate?

4. Is the new device better for patients than the currently available devices that have longer track record?

My main concern is always the wellbeing of my patients. I want my patients to have access to state of the art devices with the best outcomes and the lowest complication rates.
