Available as a mold or injection, the magnesium-based Opus MG Set is meant to fill in nonstructural bone voids or gaps during orthopedic procedures, providing a scaffolding to support the natural bone-healing process after a surgery.
Orthofix said the magnesium base is integral to Opus’ efficacy, as after the magnesium compound crystallizes, it promotes “high compressive strength,” osteogenic cell growth and new bone formation and regeneration.
“Opus Mg Set is yet another example of our commitment to innovative biologic solutions that will meet the needs of our valued surgeon customers and their patients,” Orthofix President and CEO Jon Serbousek said in the news release.
Lewisville, Texas-based Orthofix’s product portfolio is focused on spine and orthopedic devices.
