The jury ordered DePuy to pay $338,000 in medical costs and $8 million for the pain and suffering caused to the plaintiff. Punitive damages were not awarded, and the jury found no fraud or malice, according to the report.
DePuy issued a recall of the ASR hips in 2010, after more than 93,000 had been sold. Despite the recall, the company has said its device was properly designed and will appeal the decision.
