Medtronic had previously alleged NuVasive’s CoRoent XL implants, MaXcess II and III retractors and Helix and Helix mini anterior cervical plates infringed on three patents owned by Medtronic, which were related to thoracic and lumbar spinal implants, a cervical spine plate and screw system and a tissue retractor. An earlier report of damages estimated Medtronic experienced at least $200 million loss of profits due to the infringement.
In addition to Medtronic’s claims, NuVasive alleged that Medtronic Sofamor Danek USA infringed on its patent for the lateral spine surgery nerve monitoring system.
