Here are five things to know:
1. Novitas published a local coverage determination earlier this month for the “Application of Bioengineered Skin Substitutes to Lower Extremity Chronic Non-Healing Wounds,” which includes the hMatrix ADM product.
2. Novitas has jurisdiction over two geographic areas covering 11 states and the District of Columbia.
3. There are 11.3 million Medicare beneficiaries under Novitas’ jurisdiction.
4. Bacterin also achieved a contract extension with Novation to further expand the hMatrix marketability and strengthen reimbursement capabilities.
5. The coverage is effective for services performed on or after April 9, 2015.
