AxioMed Spine Receives Patent for Trapezoidal Disc Replacement Implant

Garfield Heights, Ohio-based AxioMed Spine Corp. received a U.S. patent for the trapezoidal shape of its spinal disc replacement.

The patented shape was designed to be closer to natural spinal disc anatomy, according to the release. This shape was first used by AxioMed in its Freedom Cervical Disc and later in its Freedom Lumbar Disc.

Currently, the company is undergoing an FDA investigational device exemption study of the lumbar disc and a European Union post-market study of the cervical disc, according to the release.
