The studies include:

• “Pre-Clinical and Clinical Experience with Viscoelastic Total Disc Replacement” published in SAS Journal 5.
• “Viscoelastic Disc Arthroplasty Provides Superior Back and Leg Pain Relief in Patients with Lumbar Disc Degeneration Compared to Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion” published in the International Journal of Spine Surgery.
• “Clinical Outcomes for Viscoelastic Total Disc Replacement Compared to Other Total Disc Replacements in the SWISSspine Registry” presented at the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery Annual Meeting 2012.
• “Association Between the Center of Rotation and Clinical Outcome in Patients Implanted with a Viscoelastic Total Disc Replacement” proceedings of the British Orthopaedic Association Congress 2011.

The research shows:

1. Half the patients in a 50-patient study of the Freedom Lumbar Disc reported less than 10 percent disability score and less than 1/10 on the pain scale two years after surgery.

2. The Freedom Lumbar Disc reports better pain relief than anterior lumbar interbody fusion.

3. The clinical literature doesn’t show any device failures for the Freedom cervical or lumbar discs, which have been implanted in patients globally.

4. The Freedom Lumbar Disc patients reported better health status scores at three to six months, one year and two year intervals compared with other total disc replacement devices, and the Freedom Lumbar Disc patients were on average 10 years older than other TDR patients.

5. Patients who receive the Freedom Disc are seven times more likely to report significant clinical improvement, as the disc is designed to restore a normal center of rotation.
