Appeals Court Rules Globus Spinal Device Infringes on Medtronic Patents

The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed that the Pivot System offered by Globus Medical infringes on two patents owned by Medtronic, according to a Medtronic news release.

A jury’s decision in Oct. 2008 found that the claims of Medtronic’s CD HORION SEXTANT patents are valid and was infringed upon by Globus Medical. The patents are related to the surgical instrumentation systems for minimally invasively placing implants to provide stabilization during spinal fusion surgery.
