Amedica successfully uses 3D printing to create silicon nitride devices: 4 things to know

Amedica has successfully fabricated complex, 3D structures using a 3D printing process called robotic deposition, or robocasting.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. The final products have been examined under scanning electron microscopy to confirm the integrity and validity of the 3D printing method.

 

2. The company plans to use the 3D printing method for its proprietary silicon nitride devices. The final products also achieved similar theoretical density and microstructure attributes to the traditionally manufactured silicon nitride fusion devices.

 

3. The 3D printing process is essentially binderless and a device can be completely sintered in less than 24 hours.

 

4. Amedica is focused on the development and application of interbody implants manufactured with medical-grade silicon nitride ceramic.
